BERTELSMEIER Leads the Charge as Race for Under-19 Boys’ Title Intensifies

The race for the title in the Under-19 Boys’ singles event at the 2024 Europe Youth Top 10 in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland, is intense. Germany’s Andre BERTELSMEIER, a European Youth Championships quarterfinalist earlier this summer, leads the standings after six rounds, with just one loss.

In Round 5, BERTELSMEIER suffered his first defeat in a thrilling seven-game battle against Portugal’s Tiago ABIODUN but bounced back to close the day with a victory over Dragos BUJOR.

Top-seeded Flavien COTON of France, after his Round 2 loss to BERTELSMEIER, has since regained momentum and extended his winning streak. In the opening match of the day, he overcame ABIODUN in another grueling seven-game contest. ABIODUN, Portugal’s Under-15 champion from two years ago, has gone the full distance in four of his six matches, winning three.

Hungary’s David SZANTOSI remains close to the top with only one defeat. SZANTOSI narrowly escaped a second loss in the morning session against Tom CLOSSET, surviving a spirited comeback from the Belgian. CLOSSET clawed back from a 0-3 deficit to level the match, but couldn’t secure the victory.
