NETU Championships 2024: Exciting Battles and New Leadership
From August 15-18, 2024, Riga, Latvia hosted the North European Table Tennis Championships (NETU). Featuring participants from all ten member associations, the tournament brought together some of the finest table tennis players from Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. The competition was fierce, with several finals pushing the limits, particularly in the singles categories, where thrilling showdowns captivated the audience.
The tournament also marked a significant administrative change, as the NETU Congress, held on August 16, named Norway as the leading NETU country for the next four years.
In the women's singles final, it was an all-Swedish affair as Alma RÖÖSE triumphed over her compatriot Nomin BAASAN. On the men's side, Finland's Benedek OLAH emerged victorious after an intense battle against Sweden's Anders ERIKSSON. In the women's team competition, Sweden emerged victorious, with a strong showing that underscored their dominance in the sport. Denmark took the second place, while Finland and Lithuania shared third place honors.
The men's team event saw Finland come out on top, defeating Sweden for the gold. Denmark and Norway took third place, marking their continued presence among the top contenders in North European table tennis.
