Clash between DIACONU and DRAGOMAN highlighted the day

JOOLA European Youth Top 10 in Prague

Already in the opening round two top ranked players and favorites faced each other in the Junior Girls Event at the JOOLA European Youth Top 10 in Prague. Since Adina DIACONU and Andreea DRAGOMAN both playing from Romania according to the rules they meet each other in the opening round instead in the last one.

The points went on Adina’s account but not before great fight.

The fierce battle and the final results ended Andreea’s fantastic record of 9 wins in the row since she was unbeaten last year on her way to the Cadet title in Buzau. In addition Andreea recorded 8 wins year earlier in France when she was also first in front of top seeded DIACONU. Adina has lost against DRAGOMAN on that occasion.

In Prague today it seamed we will see the similar scenario. DRAGOMAN was two games up before Adina recovered.

“I do not like to play against Andreea. She knows me very well as well as her coach. I do not feel comfortable playing against her. This morning my only thought was to win the first match and then I promised myself everything will be easier ” said DIACONU.

Last year DIACONU was a member of the Romani’s senior team at the European Championships but this year she will not be on duty in Budapest in 10 days.

“I will go to Tokyo as a part of ITTF team. At this point the trainings and preparations has priority. In Budapest there will not be many matches for me so it is better to prepare better for the World Junior Championships at the end of the year. I will play at Hungary and Austria Open too ” announced Adina.

In another duel between two compatriots Audrey ZARIF of France beat last year’s silver medalists Marie MIGOT.

Notorious for her slow start Adina stayed true to her nature and recorded another hard earned victory in six games in the second round duel against French player Marie MIGOT. Marie who beat her in Romania put Adina under severe pressure but failed to repeat the success from the previous year.

Andreea DRAGOMAN and Maria MALANINA of Russia caused the upsets in the second round by beating Daria TRIGOLOS of Belarus and ZHANG Xuan of Spain.

Adina concluded the day victoriously – she accounted for Maria MALANINA as well as DRAGOMAN who beat MIGOT.
