Titles for SAMSONOV and SAMARA in Doha

Vladimir SAMSONOV of Belarus won the Men’s Singles title at the GAC Group 2015 ITTF World Tour Qatar Open in Doha. In the final he overcame Germany’s Dimitrij OVTCHAROV the top seed. In the final of the Women’s Singles Event Elizabeta SAMARA of Romania overcame Germany’s HAN Ying.

At the final hurdle SAMSONOV occupying the no.4 seeded position in the draw needed five games to beat OVTCHAROV (9-11 8-11 13-15 11-6 9-11). Previously Dimitrij OVTCHAROV accounted for Portugal’s Marcos FREITAS the no.3 seed (11-2 10-12 11-9 11-6 9-11 11-8). At the same stage SAMSONOV overcame Chinese Taipei’s CHUANG Chih-Yuan the no.2 seed (13-11 14-12 11-5 11-7).

Romania’s Elizabeta SAMARA clinched the title in impressive style. She beat HAN in straight games (6-11 10-12 6-11 9-11). In the penultimate stage HAN Ying the no.3 seed beat Singapore’s FENG Tianwei the top seed (6-11 8-11 11-7 12-10 11-7 5-11 12). The contest lasted some 75 minutes; the duel between Elizabeta SAMARA the no.7 seed and Korea’s YANG Haeun the no.10 seed was somewhat quicker. SAMARA won in five games (11-5 10-12 11-7 11-6 11-5).
