Tristan FLORE of France won the Under 21 Menโs Singles title and Germanyโs Petrissa SOLJA had secured the counterpart Under 21 Womenโs Singles crown at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Qatar Open in Doha.
In the final Tristan FLORE beat Indiaโs Harmeet DESAI (11-9, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4), after Petrissa SOLJA, the no.2 seed, had recovered from an opening game reverse, to defeat Singaporeโs LIN Ye, the no.6 seed (9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6).
Tristan FLORE had beaten compatriots Romain LORENTZ and Benmjamin BROSSIER in the quarter and semi-finals respectively. It was the first ITTF World Tour Under 21 Menโs Singles title of his career, for Petrissa Solja, she won last year on home soil in Germany.
LIU Jia of Austria reached the semifinal of the Womenโs Singles Event. The winner of the recently played DHS 2014 Europe Cup overcame SEO Hyowon of Korea in full distance match (11-5,7-11,9-11,11-7,7-11,12-10,9-11). In semis she will meet DOO Hoi Kem of Hong Kong.
In the quarterfinal of the Menโs Singles Event CHUANG Chih-Yuan of Taipei overcame Dimitrij OVTCHAROV of Germany 4:1 (5-11,11-9,11-8,11-3,11-9), whilst CHEN Chien-An of Taipei beat Adrian CRISAN in six games (11-8,11-9,7-11,7-11,11-5,11-2).
At the semi-final stage of both the Menโs Doubles and Womenโs Doubles events not one of the four matches went according to seeding. In the Menโs Doubles event, the French partnership Tristan FLORE and Emmanuel LEBESSON, a pairing who had been required to compete in the preliminary rounds overcame the combination of Chinaโs FAN Zhendong and Robert GARDOS, the no.7 seeds, in five games (9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6). Swedenโs Kristian KARLSSON in partnership with YAN An, occupying the no.5 seeded position in the draw, experienced a five games reverse against the Korean combination of CHO Eonrae and SEO Hyundeok (11-7, 11-13, 11-2, 6-11, 11-7).
Chinaโs LIU Gaoyang and LIU Xi, not seeded, beat Germanyโs SHAN Xiaona and Petrissa SOLJA, the no.7 seeds (5-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-8); whilst Hong Kongโs LEE Ho Ching and NG Wing Nam, the no.3 seeds, saved one match point against the Korean partnership of PARK Youngsook and YANG Haeun, the no.2 seeds to secure victory (10-12, 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 12-10).
