National Championships: Wels to host 81st Austrian nationals

03/03/2011 – In Sportshall “Vogelweide” in Wels for the 81st time Austrian top players will fight for the national honor. The top seeds at the both Men’s and Women’s Event are last years winners Robert GARDOS who will seek for the third title in the row and LIU Jia who had won the title in Singles Doubles with Martina PETZNER and Mixed Doubles with Bernhard PRESSLMAYER as well last year. Not to mention that LIU won three title in 2009 too.

Beside Werner SCHLAGER who played this week at the Europe-Asia All Stars Series all the Austria’s best players will be present in Wels. Seeded no. two is CHEN Weixing no. 3 Daniel HABESOHN no. 4 Stefan FEGERL. In Women’s Singles Event number two seed is LI Qiangbing.

Robert GARDOS is the main favorite but youngster HABESOHN and FEGERL on position 3 and 4 of seeding will try to attack him as well as they will attack CHEN. In 2010 HABESOHN reached final having beat FEGERL in semis. In addition FEGERL ended hopes of CHEN Weixing in quarter-final with 4:1 victory. GARDOS won final against HABESOHN in the close match with 11:8 in 7.set

Semifinals start at Sunday 12 PM. Finals from 2.30 PM
