The final of the Men’s Doubles Event at the 2024 LIEBHERR European Championships tomorrow promises an exciting clash between Alexis LEBRUN and Felix LEBRUN of France who will take on Sweden’s Mattias FALCK and Kristian KARLSSON.
In the semi-final the LEBRUN brothers defeated Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK of Austria and Vladislav URSU of Moldova.
“It was a good match for us. We faced a strong pairing but we managed to play very well and very fast and we are very happy to be in the final ” said Alexis LEBRUN.
The French duo left little hope for their opponents. “In doubles the service and receive are the most important and we were very good in that part ” added Felix.
Tomorrow they will face Sweden’s MOREGARD and KALLBERG who dominated their compatriots KARLSSON and FALCK in the other semi-final winning 3-0.
“They are very strong beating KARLSSON and FALCK 3-0 which speaks volumes. They are two amazing singles players and have already proven their strength in doubles. We will analyze their game tonight and prepare well for the challenge ” said Alexis.
Partnering Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK Vladislav URSU secured Moldova’s first-ever medal at the European Championships.
URSU: “We had the same tactics as always but we never really got into the game. They were extremely aggressive and kept us very passive.”
KOLODZIEJCZYK:”I said at the press conference that we are a strong doubles team which unfortunately didn’t show in the match. Our opponents were too strong today it was difficult to win the point because they are extremely fast and very confident. You mustn’t forget what we did before I’m happy with the tournament.”
The all-Swedish semi-final was a swift victory for MOREGARD and KALLBERG.
“We played fantastic table tennis. We followed the plan perfectly both tactically and in executing our shots. It was an amazing match ” Truls MOREGARD said enthusiastically.
Anton KALLBERG added “I might be a little surprised that it went so smoothly. When we play this well I know we are incredibly tough to beat. We play with such aggressive intensity that they don’t get a moment to breathe.”
Regarding the final against the LEBRUN brothers MOREGARD said: “I’ve never faced them when they are both on the same side so it will be fun and exciting to experience that. I know Anton has faced them in doubles before and won. We’re probably in their heads a little and we have a good chance to beat them tomorrow.”
