Dimitrij OVTCHAROV and Mattias FALCK lost in Singapore

Germany’s Dimitrij OVTCHAROV and Sweden’s Mattias FALCK lost their Round of 16 matches at the T2 Diamond Singapore hence OVTCHAROV’s compatriot Patrick FRANZISKA continues as the only European in the quarter-finals scheduled for Saturday November 23.

 

FALCK lost to no.2 seed LIN Gaoyuan of China 4:1 (11:8 11:9 11:10 9:11 5:4) while no.10 seed OVTCHAROV was beaten by his former teammate in Russian club Fakel-Gazprom no.8 seed Jun MIZUTANI of Japan after seven games – 4:3 (11:10 9:11 5:11 11:9 5:2 0:5 5:4).

 

No.6 seed FRANZISKA who beat Korea’s LEE Sangsu in the opening day at Our Tampines Hub is going to play quarter-finals against no.4 seed LIN Yun-Ju (Chinese Taipei) who prevailed against JANG Woojin (Korea).

 

Korea’s JEOUNG Youngsik the no.11 seed upset China’s LIANG Jingkun the no.5 seed in the exciting ending after 24 minutes when the “fast five” rule came into play. JEOUNG won 4:3 (11:5 11:10 7:11 11:3 4:5 2:5 5:3).

 

Men’s quarter-finals (Nov 23): XU Xin (China) – JEOUNG Youngsik (Korea) Tomokazu HARIMOTO (Japan) – Koki NIWA (Japan) LIN Yun-Ju (Chinese Taipei) – Patrick FRANZISKA (Germany) LIN Gaoyuan (China) – Jun MIZUTANI (Japan).

 

Women’s quarter-finals (Nov 23): SUN Yingsha (China) – DING Ning (China) CHEN Xingtong (China) – WANG Manyu (China) Mima ITO (Japan) – Hitomi SATO (Japan) CHEN Meng (China) – JEON Jihee (Korea).

 

T2 Diamond Table Tennis League is organised in collaboration with the ITTF. As a core tenet of ITTF innovation lab T2 Diamond functions as a testing bed for new rules and formats of table tennis assess their impact on the game and to prime them for wider usage within the ITTF circuit. Collectively the 32 participating players are awarded 16 600 bonus ITTF World Ranking points – a significant boost as they battle their way to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualification – and USD 500 000 in prize money.
