Famous couple will not defend the title in Alicante

Joao MONTEIRO (Portugal) was forced to withdraw from the LIEBHERR 2018 ITTF European Championships due to injury

 

Portugal Table Tennis Federation (FPTM) has announced that Joao MONTEIRO will not participate at the upcoming LIEBHERR 2018 ITTF European Championships in Alicante Spain due to injury. It means that famous table tennis couple Joao and his wife Daniela MONTEIRO-DODEAN (Romania) will not defend historic title in mixed pairs they won two years ago in Budapest.

 

FPTM selected nine players in total five men`s and four women`s for the event to be held from 18th to 23rd September. Men`s representatives are Diogo CARVALHO Diogo CHEN João GERALDO Marcos FREITAS and Tiago APOLÓNIA while women`s section is formed by Célia SILVA FU Yu Leila OLIVEIRA and SHAO Jieni.

 

Portugal`s players have won three medals at the ITTF 2016 European Championships: Joao MONTEIRO gold in Mixed Doubles FU Yu silver in the Women`s Singles and Joao GERALDO and Tiago APOLONIA in Men`s Doubles.

 

Responsible coaches will be KONG Guoping Francisco SANTOS and XIE Juan.
