TTCLM: Russian clubs secure top spots in group stage

Round 5: Sporting – Borussia 3:2 Stella Sport – UMMC 0:3 Bogoria – Roskilde 1:3 Angers – Saarbrucken 3:1 Muhlhausen – Orenburg 0:3

TTCLM Round 5 has been concluded by fifth consecutive victory of former four-time winner Fakel Gazprom Orenburg who beat Post SV Muhlhausen away. Three upsets were seen tonight November 30th: first in Lisbon where Sporting overcame reigning champion and 11-time winner Borussia Dusseldorf; second in Polish city of Grodzisk Mazowiecki where Roskilde prevailed against Bogoria; third in the French city of Angers where host side met the 2012 semi-finalist Saarbrucken. The 2012 TTCLM runner-up UMMC has defeated the 2017 ETTU Cup runner-up Stella Sport La Romagne to secure top spot of Group B joining their compatriots from Orenburg as the group stage winners.

Nigerian player Quadri ARUNA provided two points for last year semi-finalist Sporting beating Anton KALLBERG and Sharath Kamal ACHANTA. Diogo KARVALHO secured victory for the host side as he overcame KALLBERG in the fifth encounter. The best Borussia’s player Timo BOLL has been placed at no. 3 in the line-up and beat Bode ABIODUN in four games while second point for German team came from ACHANTA against CARVALHO. Borussia faces Pontoise in the Round 6 to decide the Group A winner (both sides booked their places in the quarter-finals) while Sporting (secured 3rd place) travels to Ostrava.

UMMC reserved top spot of Group B having 4-1 win-loss record while other three teams enter Round 6 with 2-3 each: SPG Walter Wels Dekorglass Dzialdowo and Stella Sport La Romagne. Russian club has showed its strong line-up in France as Jonathan GROTH FANG Bo and Alexander SHIBAEV beat Adrian CRISAN CHEN Tianyuan and Brice OLLIVIER respectively.

Group C sees three teams with 3-2 win-loss record after Round 5: Angers Saarbrucken and Bogoria. Roskilde has recorded its very first win in Poland without any influence on its destiny in this group but it pretty complicated Bogoria’s situation. Former individual European champion Michael MAZE defeated Panagiotis GIONIS in the opener while ZHAI Yujia beat both Pavel SIRUCEK and GIONIS. The 22-year-old Andrea LANDRIEU has emerged as a hero of Angers against Saarbrucken as he provided two points against Patrick FRANZISKA and Darko JORGIC.

TTCLM no.2 seed Orenburg played with its strongest line-up in Muhlhausen and it was enough for 3:0 win in spite of having each of three games extended to full distance: Dimitrij OVTCHAROV vs. Daniel HABESOHN Marcor FREITAS vs. Ovidiu IONESCU and Vladimir SAMSONOV vs. Lubomir JANCARIK.
