No chink in BOLL’s armour

In the penultimate Round of the Group phase in the Table Tennis Champions League Men TTC Fakel Gazprom Vaillante Sports Angers TT UMMC Borussia Düsseldorf and SPG Walter Wels recorded home victories.

In the Group A favorites justified their rankings and repeated the success from the first leg in very impressive style. The players who occupies the places in World’s Top 10 Dimitrij OVTCHAROV Vladimir SAMSONOV and Jun MIZUTANI secured the straight matches victory for TTC Fakel Gazprom. Unlike the Russia’s club who already secured the place in the quarterfinal TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen fought for their place among top 8. They fought hard; both Jun MIZUTANI and Dimitrij OVTCHAROV were stretched to full distance. The decisive game between OVTCHAROV and Hugo CALDERON concluded by narrow margin 19:17. In First match TTC Fakel Gazprom prevailed in four matches.

Once again Vaillante Sports Angers TT beat Roskilde Bordtennis BTK61 in straight matches.

One of the most awaited duels was the match between Russia’s UMMC and French AS Pontoise Cergy in Group B. Reigning champions from France already booked their quarterfinal place (4:0) before this round but UMMC is still in dangerous zone. The today’s win eased the grip a little but the finalists from 2012 will have to wait for the last round and their duel against Elsovs (2:3) in Sweden to determine their fate.

Today Alexander SHIBAEV was the back bone of their success with two wins over Niagol STOYANOV and Marcos FREITAS. Grigory VLASOV added third point to the scoreboard.

In Group D in October Borussia Düsseldorf prevailed aganst Chartres ASTT in five matches and now they need one less to repeat the success. However one thing was the same. Again Timo BOLL won both his encounters. Both Joao MONTEIRO and Par GERELL failed to stop him. Par GERELL beat Stefan FEGERL but that was the only point guests has took from Germany’s club. Kristian KARLSSON joined BOLL on score board with victory over Alexandre ROBINOT. It semed he recovered well from the injury.

Borussia Düsseldorf record holder with 10 titles in TTCLM already secured the quarterfinal. Despite defeat Chartres still have the chance.
