GARDOS and HABESOHN will play against FEGER and MONTEIRO for medal
European Double Champions from Herning 2012 and runners up in Schwechat 2013 Robert GARDOS and Daniel HABESOHN had an easy start against Darko JORGIC and Deni KOZUL of Slovenia 3:0 in the opening Round of the men’s Doubles Event at the 2015 LIEBHERR European Championships.
“It is a very long tournament and it is hard to predict anything especially in the Doubles Event. So far I can see few new very good pairings. We have good doubles from France Portugal…Russia is here with three good doubles Ukraine with KOU Lei. In the game of best of five anything could happen. We have to be cautious ” said GARDOS.
In the second round they prevailed against Italian pairings Marco RECH and Niagal STOYANOV in straight games.
In the match for the medal they will meet Stefan FEGER also of Austria who played with Joao MONTEIRO of Portugal. FEGERL and MONTEIRO overcame Simon GAUZY and Emmanuel LEBESSON of France.
Marko JEVTOVIC and Zolt PETE overcame Tomas KONECNY and Dimitrij PROKOPCOV 3:0 to book their place in the second round but they created top rated upset by beating third seeds Fedor KUZMIN and Grigory VLASOV of Russia for the place in the quarterfinal.
“It will be third time that we are fighting for the medal in Doubles at the European Championships after 2009 and 2013 ” said JEVTOVIC.
In Women’s Doubles Event Georgina POTA of Hungary and Elizabeta SAMARA of Romania recorded the victory over XUE Li and YI Fang Xian of France 3:0 (11:9 11:5 11:6) in the second round.
“I feel confident playing with POTA. We tried this Doubles first time at Czech Open last year and in Bangkok we agreed to play together. Our aim in Ekaterinburg is medal and the way we are playing I feel we can reach it ” said SAMARA.
In the quarterfinal they will play against SHAN Xiaona and Petrissa SOLJA of Germany. They overcame Matilda EKHOLM of Sweden and Lea RAKOVAC of Croatia.
In the second round of the Women’s Doubles Event LI Qian of Poland and LI Jie of Netherlands the only European players who won the medal at the World Championships this year were tested against Anamarija ERDELJI and Gabriela FEHER of Serbia but prevailed to secure the place in the quarterfinal.
“We could not find the solution for the Anamaria’s play. Her defensive game is very strong. After the changes it was easier. Also we needed time to adjust our game. We have been playing together at the Czech and Austrian Open reached semis and final but still we are missing some games together. At 2:1 we were forced to change our tactics and it proved as good decision ” stated LI Jie.
