07/03/2010 – Big surprise marked the 78th National Championship of Belgium in Louvain-la-Neuve. Jean-Michel SAIVE Belgian number one from 1985 has been beaten in quarterfinal by the young promise star Lauric JEAN.
SAIVE had lead 3-2 and 9-4: ‘I lost my concentration. I was very bad with no excuse. Even to be Belgian champion you need motivation. I accept the law of the sport. He was better than me. He deserves the victory.”
But in final Jean was beaten by Yannick VOSTES in 4 straight sets with no chance.

Men’s Singles – Quarterfinals: Lauric JEAN bt Jean-Michel SAIVE 4-3; Marc CLOSSET bt Tom Van SCHIL 4-3; Benjamin ROGIERS bt Kilomo VITTA 4-2; Yannick VOSTES bt Florent LAMOTTE 4-1. Semi-finals: Lauric JEAN bt Marc CLOSSET 4-2; Yannick VOSTES bt Benjamin ROGIERS 4-1. Final: Yannick VOSTES beat Lauric JEAN 4-0
(11-7 11-3 11-8 11-8).

Women’s Singles – Quarterfinals: Laurence JUNKER bt Margaux MARTOS-SANCHEZ 4-3; Anja VANDENBERGHE bt Elena SCHMIGELSKAYA 4-2; Daria MITYUKOVA bt Natalya SMIRNOVA 4-1; Karen OPDENCAMP beat Gabriella VINCI 4-0. Semi-finasl: Laurence JUNKER bt Anja VANDENBERGHE 4-2; Karen OPDENCAMP bt Daria MITYUKOVA 4-3. Final: Karen OPDENCAMP beat Laurence JUNKER 4-2 (11-9 10-12 11-9 11-7 7-11 11-5).
