National Championships: Ryan JENKINS won his 10th Welsh title

06/03/2011 – Naomi OWEN retained her crown at the Welsh Championships and Ryan JENKINS won his 10th title to equal the overall record. Naomi beat Charlotte CAREY 3-1 (10 9 -9 5) in the final before that she beat Angharad PHILLIPS in the semi. Ch https://www.ettu.org

Naomi beat Charlotte CAREY 3-1 (10 9 -9 5) in the final before that she beat Angharad PHILLIPS in the semi. Charlotte beat Stevie GRECH in the other semi 3-0. Stevie beat Megan PHILLIPS in the Q-Final before exiting at the Semi Final stage. Chloe THOMAS couldn’t put a dent in Naomi OWENS’S charge and lost the Q Final match-up 0-3.

Ryan JENKINS won his 10th men’s singles title to equal Alan GRIFFITHS’ record. In the final Jenkins beat his old friend Ryan OWEN 3-0 who won his morning group beating Steve JENKINS 3-2. Owen beat Dan O’CONNELL in the semis 3-1 to set up a final ‘showdown’. JENKINS beat his brother Steve in the other semis 3-0. Q Finals saw Ryan Jenkins beat Aled HOWELLS 3-0 Steve JENKINS beat Steve BUCK 3-0 Dan O’CONNELL beat Neil WRIGHT and Ryan OWEN beat Nick Brown. Notably names to leave the draw earlier were Patrick THOMAS Conor EDWARDS Ceri JAMES Nathan THOMAS and Dean CUNDY.

In the men’s doubles the Jenkins brothers won another doubles title against Lee MORGAN and Dean CUNDY in the final. The semis saw Ryan & Steve JENKINS beat Cameron THOMAS and Patrick THOMAS whilst Lee & Dean beat Ceri JAMES and Dan O’CONNELL.

The Women’s doubles saw Naomi OWEN win her second title of the day partnering Charlotte CAREY. They beat ANGHARAD & Megan PHILLIPS 3-2 (10 -3 -13 6 4). Hannah AVERY & Stevie GRECH lost to the Phillips twins and Laura EDWARDS and Beth ROBERTS lost to Naomi and Charlotte.

The mixed doubles was probably the most contested event of the day. Dan O’CONNELL and Charlotte CAREY won the title beating Steve JENKINS and Nicole HALL in the final 3-2. Steve & Nicole beat Naomi OWEN and Nathan THOMAS in the semi while Dan and Charlotte beat Megan PHILLIPS and Conor EDWARDS.

The Vetts singles titles went to Steve HALL and Stevie GRECH respectively. The VETTS doubles was won by Paul BOOTH and Pete CHAMPION against Ray GOULDING and Tony COLLINS 3-2 (9 -9 -7 17 7).
