2016 ITTF World Cadet Challenge
At the ITTF World Cadet Challenge 2015 Boys’ Team Champion Europe avenged their loss to the Asian team in the team semifinals with Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK (AUT) and Vladimir SIDORENKO (RUS) upsetting top seeded pair CHO Daeseong and Yukiya UDA 3-2 (13-11 7-11 11-4 8-11 11-6) in the final of the Doubles Event.
The European girls and boys have collected a fantastic number of seven medals in the individual events at WCC in Shanghai.
“In the randomly composed mixed doubles Zdena BLASKOVA partnering Sharon ALGUETTI and Carlo ROSSI with Australia’s TOWNSEND made it to the semi-finals and had clinched bronze medals. Both European pairings BLASKOVA KOLISH and PLAJAN WEGRZYN were beaten in semi-finals by the Asian opposition. In boys singles SIDORENKO broke through to the medal positions by taking the 3rd position. It was 2-4 against CHO Daesong of KOR in semis and 3-0 over Panagitgun YANAPONG THA in a match for position nr 3 ” explained Jarek KOLODZIEJCZYK.
The success continued with doubles.
” We also have bronze from ROSSI and ANDRAS in doubles after they beat best Chines doubles in the quarterfinal before losing to Asians in semi-final stage. And finally we’ve had our golden moment: KOLODZIEJCZYK SIDORENKO have done it at the end beating UDA of Japan and CHO of Korea 3-2 in the final!”
Team Manager Europe KOLODZIEJCZYK did not forget to mention coaches.
“Big congratulations for all the players and their coaches! Both those who were present in Shanghai – Ms.Csilla BATORFI and Mr.Marc CLOSSET – and those who work with them at home day by day! Bravo!”
The World Cadet Challenge is the international tournament for world’s best under-15 players to fight for the honor of their continents and has long been a budding ground for young talents around the world. Many World Champions such as Grand Slam Champions ZHANG Jike MA Long and DING Ning all started their debut on the international arena at the World Cadet Challenge.
