Germany in the final of the ITTF World team Championships

Germany reached the ultimate stage of the Men’s Teams Event at the 2022 ITTF World team Championships Finals in Chengdu. It is their seventh final of the World Championships. Once again they withstood great pressure and in five matches duel overcame Korea Republic. It is first time after 2010 that no one from leading German trio Timo BOLL Dimitrij OVTCHAROV or Patrick FRANZISKA were not at the duty. At least one player were involved in the making four out of six silver medals in recent past.

Benedikt DUDA recorded two wins. He beat JANG Woojin 3-1 and AN Jaehyun 3-1 in the decisive match.

“It was a very special moment for me when I won the first match against JANG Woojin. He is a very strong player. In the fifth game I know the possibility to win for us is 50-50% I just have to play my best table tennis and I worked it out at the end ” said DUDA.

QIU Dang lost to AN 1-3 at 2-2. He suffered injury during the match.

“This was a sport accident. I slipped when I tried to step around. And then I want to recover the ball on the forehand side. I took a small break to recover my hip and leg but I didn’t feel any big pains so I could continue the match. Luckily I think there’s no problem for me to continue right now ” explained QIU.

Coach Jorg ROSSKOPF was satisfied with the outcome.

“A lot of people at home didn’t think we could do it this time but you can see what an irrepressible will can do. The fact that a complete team comes back from the areas yesterday and today shows what team spirit is worth. The whole team behind the team – the training group the coaches here and at home the medical department are immensely important. We all work extremely well together.”
